Volvo Construction Equipment announced on March 17, 2026 that it will close the Rokbak articulated hauler business. The decision ends production of Rokbak's RA30 and RA40 articulated dump trucks and marks the end of a product line with roots going back decades in the Motherwell, Scotland facility.

Volvo CE cited a combination of factors driving the decision: declining profitability in the articulated hauler segment, disruption from US import tariffs, ongoing supply chain pressures, and what the company described as an increasingly difficult competitive environment in the sector.

What Volvo CE Said

Melker Jernberg, President of Volvo Construction Equipment, said the company explored every available option to make the articulated hauler business viable before concluding that closure was the only sustainable path. The company indicated that the Motherwell facility itself will not close entirely — it will continue supporting Volvo CE's rigid hauler operations, which are not being discontinued.

Employee consultation is expected to run through Q3 2026, with the closure timeline tied to completing that process and winding down production commitments to existing customers.

Background on Rokbak

Rokbak was rebranded from Terex Trucks in 2022 following Volvo CE's acquisition of the Motherwell operation. The brand had built a following among contractors in mining, quarrying, and large-scale earthmoving, particularly for the RA40's durability in harsh off-road conditions.

The closure is a significant development for customers who run Rokbak machines in their fleets. Support for existing equipment — parts, service, and technical documentation — will remain available through the wind-down period, but long-term parts supply will need to be planned carefully.

What This Means for Rokbak Operators

Fleet operators running Rokbak RA30 and RA40 machines should take stock of their planned maintenance intervals and ensure they are not caught short on wear items and critical components when production stops. Common consumables — filters, hydraulic seals, brake components, undercarriage wear parts — are the ones to prioritize for stocking.

ICP Miami carries Rokbak OEM parts and can help operators plan their parts inventory through this transition. If you operate Rokbak equipment in the U.S. or Latin America, reach out to our team or submit a parts request and we will work with you on sourcing strategy.

Broader Industry Implications

The Rokbak closure reflects real pressure on articulated hauler manufacturers more broadly. The segment has faced headwinds from slowing construction activity in key markets, elevated raw material costs, and increased competition. The US tariff environment in 2025-2026 has added cost pressure specifically for manufacturers exporting to the American market.

For contractors evaluating their fleet composition, this development may influence decisions about which brands to standardize on for long-term parts support availability. Brands with strong independent distribution networks and established parts supply chains will be better positioned to support operators over the long term.

ICP Miami stocks parts for the full range of brands we distribute, including brands that have experienced market changes. Browse our brands page or contact our team to discuss your fleet's needs.
